60 Year Old: Woman's Perspective on Media - "Older people are not as technology savvy"

1. What forms of media do you use? (i.e. TV, computer, internet, iPhone, iTouch, iPod, etc.) Some TV and the Internet (mostly for email).
2. Does “the media” influence your life? If so in what way? (i.e. my job, my relationships) Advertising might influence my shopping (for specific products). Can't imagine my life without the following: TV, the internet, cell phones.
4. Do you think age affects your understanding of media? If so how? Yes, older people are not as technology savvy.
5. Can you imagine living in a country without having access to media (internet, television, the computer, etc?)Yes, but it would be really hard.
TV
1. Did you grow up the TV? If, so how has the television influenced your life? No
2. Do you watch TV? Why? If not, why? If so how much? Yes, very little.
3. What about television do you like? Why? I watch TV for instant news coverage and
4. What about television do you dislike? Why? Sitcoms, “canned laughter”, violence, distortion of reality and values, etc
5. What are your favorite shows? CNN
6. Why do you like those shows? To know the current news
7. Do you think television and the media is too dominating in determining society norms? Yes + vice-versa (society determines TV) its a cycle.
8. If you didn’t or don’t watch television why? And was it your own decision? I have very little interest. I prefer doing something else.
Computer/Internet
1. Did you grow up with the computer and the internet? No
2. What do you mostly use the computer for (i.e. academic purposes, business purposes, personal purposes (email), etc.) Email
3. What websites do you use visit most often?
Facebook
4. Do you use Facebook? If so, why? To stay in touch with friends
5. Do you feel your privacy is safe when using the internet? I have no secrets
Print Media
1. Do you read the newspaper? If so how (online, print, iPhone/iTouch)? Hard Copy of the Journal News, daily
a. Why do you prefer that method? I prefer print, it’s easier for me.
2. Do you read books? If so how (print or electronically)? Yes, print.
a. Why do you prefer that method? I like to hold a book, it’s easier to read.
3. Can you imagine a world without newspapers and books in print? Perhaps, but it would be difficult for people who grew up with newspapers in print and books in print.
Blogging
1. Do you know what blogging is? No

1. Job Status (i.e. working, student, retired etc.) Retired, Babysitter for Grandson.
Changes in the Media
1. Is there something you wish you change about any medium? If so what? I would like to see less advertising in the media.
2. Is there something you wish you understood more about the media? How to make better use of the internet to have more time…
